Position Title: Mechanic

Preferred Residency: Hamburg Resident
Salary Range: $24.32 - $30.25 per hour (Six-month probationary period applies)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (½ hour unpaid lunch)

Position Overview:

The Village of Hamburg Department of Public Works is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanic to join our team. This individual will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles and equipment — from chainsaws and lawn mowers to light and heavy-duty diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural issues in vehicles and equipment.
• Perform necessary repairs or part replacements, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension and brake systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and New York State inspections (light and heavy vehicles).
• Operate and test-drive equipment to evaluate performance.
• Maintain detailed service and repair records.
• Ensure a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications:

• 5–10 years of relevant experience in diesel, heavy equipment, or automotive repair.
• Degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive repair and diagnostics.
• ASE certifications are a plus.
• NYS Inspection License and valid NYS Driver’s License required.
• CDL required; welding and fabrication skills are an asset.
• Strong IT and diagnostic capabilities.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and adhere to safety protocols.
• Positive attitude and effective interpersonal skills.
• Occasional overtime required.
