Climate Change Initiatives
The Village of Hamburg is a New York State designated Clean Energy Community and Climate Smart Community.

The Village Board of Trustees passed a motion pledging to become a NYS Climate Smart Community on August, 15, 2022. Climate Smart Communities acknowledge the threat of climate change, and pledge to take steps at the local level to reduce their impact on the climate by reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing local resilience to to the impacts of climate change.
Since the original pledge, The Village of Hamburg has completed 18 different registered actions in the Climate Smart Communities program and received a Certified Bronze Designation on October 2, 2023. Currently, the Climate Smart Communities actions are overseen by the Village Environmental Conservation Commission.
