Before the snow arrives, please remove all obstacles from the sidewalks that would interfere with snow removal operations. During snow events, streets are plowed first. Secondly sidewalks in the business district are cleared and then near the schools (schools are typically closed during major snowfalls). As time allows sidewalks are cleared. REMINDER - CLEARING SIDEWALKS OF SNOW AND ICE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PROPERTY OWNER as outlined in Section 203-6 of the Village Code. DO NOT push your snow into the street or onto property you do not own. If you hire a contractor for snow removal, they must obtain a Snow Removal Permit from Village Hall. With Christmas only 8 weeks away, the elves at Hamburgh Holidays are in full planning mode! The parade and other holiday activities are being organized, including a Holiday Matinee, Christmas in the Village, Breakfast with Santa, the Enchanted Forest Walk, etc., etc., etc. The annual Wreath Sale is also underway. The leaf machines will be out starting Tuesday, October 14, 2025. At that time, leaves and yard waste (pulled flowers and weeds, hedge clippings, pumpkins, etc.) may be placed on the groundnexttothe street (never inthe street, not in bags and not in your totes) for the machines to vacuum up. While crews try to follow the garbage routes, that day can vary based on volume. Please be patient - it will be picked up (weather permitting). Collection will go on until approximately mid-December (end date to be determined) weather permitting.
BRUSH COLLECTION- Brush (branch/limb) collection goes on year round (weather permitting) and alwaysbeginson the last Monday of the month. It does not have to be a full week.
There are still plenty of events and activities going on in and around the village right through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Work on the Village's new water tower continues as contractors and engineers work on building the concrete shaft. Village Board and Hamburg Central School Representatives recently visited the site for a meeting with engineers and to get an update on the project. The effort to ReTree Hamburg is ongoing, as this volunteer group continues to work with the Village to reestablish the beautiful tree canopy/streetscape that Hamburg has always been known for. Residents and businesses can assist in this effort by purchasing a tree for planting in fall 2025. Click the 'ReTree Hamburg' link above for additional information or to place your order.
Mattresses (do not have to wrap box springs), mattress toppers, futon mattresses/cushions must be bagged/wrapped in plastic when they are disposed of during large trash weeks. You may provide your own bag/wrap or Mattress bags are available at Public Works, 425 Pleasant Avenue for $6.00 each (cash or check).
Additional garbage and recycle totes may be purchased at Public Works, 425 Pleasant Avenue. Garbage totes are $80.00, Recycle totes are $50.00 - cash or check payable to Village of Hamburg. Once totes are paid for, they will be delivered.
